Forever Their Daughter – DNA NOT REQUIRED
“Not everyone gets to pick who their child is. You should consider yourself very lucky.” This is something that I was told when I was growing up regarding the fact that I was adopted. The only problem was that I felt as if that statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. I was always too focused on questioning why my birth mother didn’t want me and what was wrong with me. After years of depression, I had finally seen and felt the truth.
I’m so blessed to have been given my parents. They have always shown me what the meaning of love is. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t my biological parents and that I don’t have an ounce of their blood in me, they’ve always been there for me even at times when no one else was. Looking back to my teenage years, I’m so disappointed that we didn’t have a stronger bond. There were too many false feelings and emotions that got in the way. However, the past doesn’t matter at this point.
They’ve been nothing but supportive to the decisions that my family and I have decided to make. It’s such a great feeling knowing that your parents are truly proud of you and the person you’ve become. I would be nothing without my parents and I’ve never been more appreciative and happy to call them mine!
