Our Christmas Miracle!
Our family was blessed with two beautiful children-our daughter, Helen, and son, Drew. So many people would comment on our family and say, “Aren’t you lucky- a girl and a boy! Are you done?” We knew we weren’t done- we still had so much love to give and there are so many children who need the love of a family. God was working on our hearts and created a longing for our future son before we ever knew who he was.
When we started the adoption process, we were drawn to China. So many children waiting in orphanages and foster homes, most of them with special needs. We dove into the paperwork, and just days after we were placed on the waiting family list, we were matched with our son.
From the moment I saw his picture, Hao Kun had our hearts. He had many medical issues, and many unknowns, but we knew God was calling him home to us. For the next 10 months we worked on paperwork, we saved money, and we waited for approvals, which seemed to be delayed time and time again.
It was so hard to know he was growing up without us, but finally, in December 2014, we flew to China and met our boy. The trip was a whirlwind of appointments, travel, and learning how to be a family. Our precious boy was finally in our arms, and we were able to complete the adoption process and arrive home on Christmas day! Our Christmas miracle!
Hao was 4 years old when he joined our family- he couldn’t walk, could only speak a few words in Mandarin, and was still eating from a bottle. We had no idea what he was capable of! Since he came home he has learned to walk, run, jump, and climb. He is eating us out of house and home. He can talk your ear off and even crack a joke. But his most outstanding accomplishment is the pure joy he has over the simplest of things! He delights in the smallest things and his belly laugh is contagious.
Hao is turning 5 in just a few weeks and we feel like the most blessed family to have been able to witness so many of his firsts. He has taught us so much, how to choose love, and how to love better and more intentionally. Our family is not complete without this little guy- he has reshaped our family in a beautiful way. With Hao we are Lovelogical!
